Wind energy was the source that contributed the most to Spain in January

Renewable energies do not all develop in the same way, since it depends a lot on the areas where they are located, the sectors dedicated to them, the number of people and entities that invest in them, etc. During this month of January, wind energy has been the one that has generated the most amount of energy in Spain.

Do you want to know the energy percentages for this month of January?

During the month of January, wind energy It has generated 24,7% of the total electricity production in Spain. With a monthly demand of 22.635 GWh, wind power has generated 5.300 GWh, 10,5% more than that generated in the same month last year, according to REE data.

Despite the fact that Spain has a large number of hours of sunshine, the photovoltaic solar energy generated it only corresponds to 1,9% of all energy.

In Spain there are more than a thousand wind farms and, due to the continuous storms suffered in the last two months, they are in charge of generating 25% of the electricity we consume. Last December 2017, it generated 25,1% of all energy and this January 24,7%.

Wind power has become the option that has contributed the most electricity to the energy system. Since 2017, the wind power in Spain has increased by a total of 95,775 MW of wind power, of which 59,1 MW have been installed in the Canary Islands.

In total, spread over 800 municipalities, Spain has 23.121 MW of wind power.

It is a pity that, with the storms that have taken place in Spain during these two months, if the number of hours of sunshine we have had also been used, renewable energy could have surpassed fossil energy and, with it, have reduced air pollution and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
