The renewables auction will generate almost 58.000 new jobs

renewable jobs

Thanks to the renewable energy auction held, a new energy boom is going to be experienced in Spain based on clean energy. With the construction of 8.700 MW of new power, almost mostly wind and solar, many jobs will be created.

This auction of renewable energies has had many positive points of view, both for the energy sector, and for climate change, including employment. What benefits has this renewable auction had?

The new boom in renewable energies

One of the main benefits of the entry of new renewable energy in Spain is that it reduces electricity prices. This is a great social benefit given that, apart from making electricity cheaper for all Spaniards, it generates many jobs.

According to the photovoltaic subsidiary of the renewable energy employer APPA, more than 3.900 new direct and indirect jobs will be created with the 27.900 new megawatts of photovoltaic during the construction phase and would increase to more than 18.800, the permanent jobs in this technology for the next 20 years.

In addition, the employer's association for wind energy in Spain has announced that the entry of renewable energy in Spain will create between 25.000 and 30.000 new jobs distributed between direct and indirect, during the construction phase of the wind farms. This is great news for the unemployment suffered by Spain after the economic crisis because in total, there are almost 58.000 new jobs that will be launched as the parks progress.

Currently, the jobs dedicated to the renewable energy sector is around 75.000. Thanks to the auction of renewables, the increase in jobs in this sector will rise by 75% more. For this reason, the number of jobs dedicated to clean energy would once again be the same as five years ago, when the Government applied the moratorium.

Finally, the auction for renewables in the Canary Islands has yet to be held. This will further increase the number of workers and the amount of renewable energy that will be generated in Spain.
