The forests to cover 25% of China in an «eco-civilization» project

China

About a quarter of China it will be covered by forests by 2020 if the country is able to implement the "eco-civilization" project according to a new United Nations report. This news would go hand in hand with the intentions of this country to reduce CO2 emissions.

The study was released last thursday by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) at the second assembly in the Kenyan capital Nairobi. UNEP has published a series of reports that seeks to show how countries can implement the 2060 agenda for sustainable development and the agreements carried out at the COP21 held in Paris at the end of last year.

The "Eco-civilization" plan will achieve the increase of forests in China to more than 23 percent by 2020 and the share of days per year with good air quality for cities will exceed 80 percent. The plan is designed to create an ecologically sustainable society that is seamlessly integrated with economic, social, cultural and political progress.

Achim Steiner, Executive Director of UNEP, states: «or numerous tools available to countries to develop an inclusive green economy, and this report shows examples from developed and developing regions«.

Follow with: «there is no single path for one low fossil fuel economy, but there are different opportunities for countries to transform their economies and societies, as well as to orient themselves towards sustainable development. The multiple pathways offered, the report shows how it should work and is a resource that governments should not overlook to address environmental challenges on non-traditional paths.«.

The report also shows how China had built 2014 billion square meters of sustainable buildings in urban areas by the end of 10,5, about 38% of the total residential area.
