Renewables are getting better and better, but they should do so at a higher rate

fossil-renewable

The world is increasingly using and improving technologies in the field of renewable energy. More companies and markets are dedicated to innovation and research in this sector. But at the rate that we are still dependent on fossil fuels and the increasingly pronounced effects of climate change, the renewables sector it should develop more quickly.

The World Energy Resources 2016, presented yesterday in Istanbul, reveals that the high growth of the renewable energy market in the last 15 years. Various aspects of the market have been improved, from increased investments, more power generation capacity and even more efficiency.

The world energy landscape has undergone considerable changes since 2000. Today, most countries offer a mixed energy system, between fossil fuels and renewable energies. However, this report indicates that the rate at which renewables are developing is less than necessary to meet greenhouse gas emissions targets.

There are several elements to take into account in this change in the world energy landscape. We find aspects such as the fall in energy prices, greater dissociation between economic growth and greenhouse gas emissions, the advance of renewables in developing countries, etc. Previously, the economic growth of a country was directly proportional to the emissions of gases discharged into the atmosphere. This does not have to be the case today thanks to renewables.

The Executive President of World Resources Energy, Hans Wilhelm Schiffer, stated that this report shows that the diversification of technologies and resources, applied in the energy sector, creates many opportunities, but also greater complexity and an increase in challenges.
