Hydrotor, a new way of looking at hydraulic energy

micro turbine

Currently we have been able to observe and in the best case test first-hand renewable energies at home, said electricity self-consumption provided for these energies are usually thanks to wind energy and photovoltaic solar energy with a few small wind turbines or solar panels respectively.

This is changing, renewables are in full growth year after year and this has to be noticed in innovation and if it is from Spain, the better.

To the very small list of "home" energies they are joined hydraulic powerObviously it will be for some privileged people since not everyone can have or live near a riverbed such as roofs or terraces to install solar panels, even so, it looks very good.

Asturias engineers have developed Hydrotor, a micro hydro turbine that with the help of small waterfalls allows the generation of electricity.

For what Hidrotor has become, it is the new sub-brand created by the AZ Renovables company, which is made up of the Ast companies. Ingenieria y Talleres Zitrón since 2010.

This brand has recently been created in order to market this mini hydraulic generator with its previous manufacture in Gijón.

As you can see it is designed, manufactured and sold it is entirely Spain so you have to bet on it.

You still don't believe it, do you?

It is the first exclusive hydraulic micro in Spain as I have mentioned previously and is based on taking advantage of the relief and the fall of the water with an endless screw or also known as Archimedes screwThis screw with its movement when the water falls is capable of generating clean electricity and even storing it in batteries.

His work has no rest since is capable of producing 7 days a week for 24 hours of each day (until holidays lol) since it does not depend on any external factor.

In addition, it can be installed in the same riverbed, in a derivative or an annex of the same and is completely suitable to adapt to flow.

Its power? between the 5KW and 200KW depending on the characteristics of the environment whose amortization varies between 3 and 9 years.

It is also compatible with fish and the river ecosystem among other things.

I do not want to extend too much with this since in the video that I leave you next the whole process is very well explained as well as its advantages.

In any case, the advantages can always be trimmed, not everything has to be pink.

Personally if I see that has environmental impacts where in the explanatory video it says it is null, the visual impact it is already an impact like that caused by wind farms or solar farms.

Having all the channels and derivatives of a river filled with Hydrotor removes the natural charm of these rivers.

On the other hand, the compatibility with the river ecosystem and the fish ... it is worth having the ability to adapt to different flows without affecting performance, which I see as perfect, but if you put something external in an ecosystem you are already altering itDepending on the impact, it will be to a greater or lesser extent, but there is this alteration and therefore its effects must be studied in greater depth.

At the moment, Hidrotor comes out with quite a few strong points, if they improve the weak points it can be a great advance for hydraulic energy at home.

Funds and grants

Its development has been possible with aid programs INNPACTO of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and co-financed with FEDER Funds.

ERDF funds (European Regional Development Funds) have been designed to reduce environmental and socio-economic problems in urban areas, focusing on sustainable urban development.

Rather, the goal of INNPACT is the creation of projects in the creation of projects in cooperation between research organizations and companies to jointly carry out projects to mobilize private investment, generate employment and improve the country's technological balance, as well as encourage the participation of beneficiary entities in European and international projects and programs.
