In Spain, everything related to renewables is always in the doldrums. Our government does nothing more than put up barriers so that citizens can develop renewable technologies and thus favor self-consumption.
The activists of the environmental organization Greenpeace have been deployed to the multiple headquarters of the main electricity companies in Spain to denounce the pollution produced by generating electricity from fossil fuels and the policy of blocking these companies from renewable energies.
Greenpeace and clean energy
Greenpeace activists have been deployed to the main headquarters Endesa (Madrid), Iberdrola (Bilbao) and Gas Natural Fenosa (Barcelona). Hundreds of environmentalists have participated, carrying numerous black balloons that simulate the atmospheric pollution caused by them.
In order to reduce CO2 emissions and contribute to the fight against climate change, Geenpeace has required Endesa to assume its commitment to reduce emissions and adhere to the calendar in which the six coal-fired power plants are closed before year 2025.
The organization has denounced that the Government supports the policy of increasing the cost of electricity and gas that these electricity companies practice, which are awarded grants to keep their thermal and nuclear power plants in business.
The government favors power companies
According to Greenpeace data, the aid that the Government gave to Endesa, Iberdrola and Gas Natural in 2016, made them obtain benefits of 5.463 million euros, while among the three, only in 2015, emitted about 49 million tons of CO2, which places them among the 10 companies that contribute the most to climate change in the country.
This action could also be done and centered on the Government that is the one that supports and tolerates this situation. The objective of this activity is to be able to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to the fight against climate change.
