Recycling of paper and cardboard has increased in 2017

paper and cardboard recycling

Recycling every year is increasing in Spain. As awareness of recycling increases, more waste is collected at treatment plants. For this year 2017, the collection of paper and cardboard will grow 1,5%, reaching 4.780.000 tons.

How much recycling is expected this Christmas?

The Spanish Association of Pulp, Paper and Cardboard Manufacturers (Aspapel), has calculated provisional data that expects the collection to increase during this month of December and January until 10% more than the annual average.

Recycling has been increasing in Spain for the fourth consecutive year and has been ranked as the third best year in history. At Christmas time more waste is generated that can be recycled than at other times of the year. In these dates 862.000 tons of paper and cardboard are expected to be collected, that is, 18% of the volume of the whole year concentrated in several weeks.

The days of Christmas, New Years and Kings are the days that most expect paper and cardboard waste to be generated. In addition, there have also been other days where large volumes of waste occur such as Black Friday and the January sales.

At this time it is important to remind consumers that paper and cardboard must be deposited in the blue containers, since these materials are 100% recyclable. One tip that is given is to fold the boxes so that they take up less space or leave them folded next to the container.

The paper industry plans to recycle more than five million tons this year and increase its capacity even more in 2018. According to Aspapel, the selective collection of these materials reached its all-time high in 2008, with almost five million tons, while in recycling the Spanish paper industry is the second in Europe, only behind Germany.

Excellent news that means that every time we are more quotients with our waste, we must also promote it in a similar way in companies and offices
