The Texas Wind Power Boom

Texas

Today Texas is an American state that produces about 4 times more wind power than California, the third largest originating state, and three times more than Iowa, ranked second. A region that produces 28 percent of natural gas and 37% of crude oil for the United States.

Texas has increased its 80% wind power capacity to 18.000 megawatts since 2010, with current wind generation more than double that of that year. And it is that there are more than 10.000 wind turbines in this state so that, last winter, the wind will supply 40-50% of the electricity. The Texas wind boom has come without much help from legendary Texan tanker T. Boon Pickens, who has stepped back on grandiose plans for wind in the state.

Texas now produces more wind power than all it jointly produce 25 American states. An unusual fact for one of the regions where oil has been well established and that gives us a sign of the times of change that are approaching, if not we are already there.

Texas has a diversification in the energy portfolio that allows it to rchoose in natural gas if it happens that wind power does not work when the wind dies down. Gas plants are available for that support energy that can go from being completely stopped to operating at full capacity in 10 minutes and ceasing operation when the wind begins to blow again.

Amazon and Johnson & Johnson are two of the growing companies that are getting caught up in wind power in Texas. Amazon wants to build a wind farm that will supply one million megawatt hours of electricity per year, enough energy for 90.000 homes. This is making Texas become the role model for the rest of this country.
