Approves a motion to promote renewable energy in Spain

Renewable energy

As we know, Spain is always a step or two behind the rest of the European Union countries in the renewable energy sector. Since in 2008 the Popular Party headed by Mariano Rajoy governs our country, the subsidies and facilities to bet on renewable energy and sustainable development have been truncated.

That is why the Plenary of the Congress of Deputies yesterday approved a motion to be able to promote the energy transition in Spain aimed at renewable energy. The objectives of this motion is to be able to comply with the committed greenhouse gas emission limits. For this, renewable energies will be promoted and energy self-consumption will be facilitated.

This text has been Citizens initiative and has been amended by most groups. This text proposes to reach an energy pact to achieve an energy transition and avoid dependence on fossil fuels. Because pollution is negatively affecting the population and increases the effect of climate change, the energy transition must be achieved as quickly as possible.

The text commits compliance with the recent mandate of the European Commission by which all countries are committed to reducing emissions of polluting gases. The deputy for Citizens Melisa Rodríguez stated that «you can't turn your back on europe»And has demanded from the Government a roadmap for the decarbonization of Spain for the year 2030 and another for the year 2050. This had been previously requested by the Commissioner for Climate Action Miguel Arias Canete, to be able to think and act in the long term in this energy transition from fossil fuels to renewable energies.

“We need to shelve the Fossil fuels, bet on renewables, and stop considering the consumer of solar energy as a producer because it is not, in short, we need a fair law that regulates the electrical self-consumption"Melisa insisted while recalling that CO2 emissions increased in Spain last year.
