An app that identifies plants a la "Shazam", Plantnet

Technology brings us to other types of possibilities as we see daily with these new devices that even allow us to identify songs thanks to the microphone that they have incorporated. But the funny thing about these devices is that they also they serve to identify plants with the camera they have as with PlantNet.

PlantNet is a tool that helps to identify plants with images. This takes care of organize it in different databases depending on the region so there are no problems. A curious and interesting application that will allow you to share your observations about the plant kingdom with your friends or family, just as it happens with other types of applications or social networks.

PlantNet has been developed by a consortium made up of scientists CIRAD, INRA, INRIA, IRD and the Tela Botánica network under a project funded by the Agropolis Foundation.

PlantNet

It is based on a support system for automatic identification of plants from images compared to images from a botanical database. These results are used to know the name of the plant, if it is sufficiently illustrated in the base.

The app contains More than 4.100 species of wild plants of the French flora. What cannot be accessed is the identification of ornamental plants. From the application itself it is advised that, for the identification of the plant, it focuses on a part of it.

If you usually go out to the field and want to know some specific type of plant, this app can come in handy in certain cases, although due to the feedback collected by many users, sometimes it doesn't work. Hopefully they will improve it, since in itself it is a very original tool and that is close to others such as the one mentioned by Shazam.
