Regardless of the economic situation, renewable energy is a business with enormous potential, and Genera, the fair organized by Ifema plans to open its twentieth edition, with the novelty of the meetings B2B launched by the European Commission within the framework of the initiative Business Beyond Borders.

In 2007, before the subprime crisis, Spain consumed
80 million tons of oil per year . In 2015, it was 60 million. This decline not only responds to the deterioration of the economic situation, but also to an economy that, concerned about climate change, is going
looking for alternatives .
Luckily we find them: according to data from the oil company BP, during those eight years the consumption of renewable energy grew in Spain by 61%, and that counting hydroelectric production, which remained relatively stable. This not only has a great environmental impact: as the APPA association has indicated, the savings in imports of the electricity system amounted to 2.353 million euros, and directly employed 75.475 people .
The exhibition is held in parallel with SIGA , the fair of the integral water cycle, offering an opportunity for professionals interested in both aspects. Both fairs are scheduled to close their doors on Friday, March 3.
In pavilion 1 of the Campo de las Naciones fairgrounds (as well as in some stalls outside the pavilion) the products and services of firms dedicated to solar energy will be on display - in its three aspects: thermal, photovoltaic and solar thermal— biomass, wind, the different possibilities of hydrogen, geothermal and other energies, as well as cogeneration and micro-cogeneration (that is, the energy reuse of industrial processes). There will also be space for energy service companies, which operate in all areas of the industry.
Help SMEs
Normally, fairs are already an opportunity to find potential partners and share experiences, this edition of Genera will make an extra effort to promote this kind of relationship, thanks to a program promoted by the European Commission. The Business Beyond Borders initiative (BBB , in English), is, according to the organization, "aimed at helping SMEs in the energy and environmental sector to access new international markets, as well as boosting the economic growth of the sector inside and outside Europe"
That is why the organization, with the support of MadrI + D Foundation, Madrid Network, and the Chamber of Spain, offers companies that sign up (which, it estimates, there will be about 200) bilateral meetings with other European firms in the sector and interactive conferences with the latest technological developments.
In addition, in collaboration with the Institute for Diversification and Energy Saving (Idae), the employers' association APPA and the Italian Chamber of Commerce, the fair includes a Technical Conference, with the economic perspectives of the sector, as well as highly specialized solutions for areas such as education and public administration.
