Ireland to supply wind power to the UK

Renewable energy

This week we have been able to read in the press of our country and in various places on the Internet a piece of news that is less interesting and that is Ireland to supply the UK with wind power from 2017.

This supply can be realized due to the construction of a large wind farm on boggy terrain from the center of the island and surely to a large amount of money that the UK will turn off to Ireland.

This new wind farm will house a total of 700 turbines and will contribute in addition to supplying energy to the United Kingdom, it will allow 40% of the energy consumed in Ireland in 2020 will be from renewable sources.

This "strange" collaboration is mainly due to the fact that Ireland from here to some will have the capacity to generate more energy than it will need to cover its own needs and that of its citizens, so it will be able to transfer part of that excess energy to its neighboring country .

Today, 18% of the energy consumed in Ireland already comes from renewable sources, a figure that will increase to 40 percent in 2020, said Rabbitte, Irish Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources.

Some Irish conservation groups oppose the project, saying it will "negatively change the landscape", but the Irish and British governments say it provides an opportunity to generate economic benefits and create thousands of new jobs in both jurisdictions.

It will certainly be difficult but hopefully in the not too distant future we can see more collaborations of this type since this would mean that some countries could cover all their energy needs through renewable energy and also try to help others to achieve it.
