3 revolutionary technologies based on renewable energy

revolutionary technologies

Thanks to technologies we can develop machinery that is more efficient and that can help us generate energy without polluting or using sources such as oil, natural gas or coal.

These technologies that make it possible to achieve important and substantial changes in people's lives while respecting the environment are the most innovative and necessary in a rhythm of life like the one we have. Today we are going to see three types of revolutionary technologies that will help us to be more sustainable with the environment and to take advantage of energy resources. What kind of technologies are these?

Grow mushrooms under solar panels

mushroom cultivation in solar panels

To harness the energy created by solar panels, you can grow mushrooms and use solar energy as a source of electricity for what the mushrooms need. The only negative consequence of this it is the enormous space occupied by the solar panels.

As the population grows, so does the demand for food and therefore farmland, so it is necessary to establish a balance between the use of the land that is used to produce energy and food.

The startup Sustainergy, which is based in Tokyo, has found a way to farm under a solar farm. To do this they have partnered with Hitachi Capital and Daiwa House Industry, which intend to generate 4.000 kW of solar energy, in two abandoned agricultural fields in Japan.

This project has a budget of 11 million euros. They want to take advantage of all the shady areas to grow the mushrooms, since they need little sunlight to grow and are usually imported from China.

Ferry with electric power

ship powered by electricity

As we know, fossil fuels are a limitation when it comes to transport and the companies dedicated to it. Greenhouse gas emissions are increasing global warming and polluting our atmosphere. It is not only these problems (which are already very serious), but they also generate serious problems for people's health, causing thousands of deaths a year.

For this reason, the shipping industry has been chained by technological barriers, since they work with fossil fuels. However, the Stockholm County Council wants to be a pioneer in the electrification of boat transport, developing an electric ferry.

It has been agreed to design an electric ferry that can carry up to 150 passengers and runs on electric power. This ferry will be built at the Baltic Workboats shipyard in Estonia. The ship is expected to be ready for operation during the summer of 2018.

Since it is difficult to build a ship that only works with electric power, due to the limited autonomy and the dangers that it can present, the ship is a hybrid diesel-electric. Visa electrical system it will reduce emissions, fuel consumption and maintenance costs. The shuttle will also use catalytic reduction filters to further minimize environmental impact.

Turn the jail into a city

Bijlmerbajes old jail

An old jail located in Amsterdam closed due to lack of prisoners. The complex is called Bijlmerbajes and closed in 2016. To take advantage of these buildings it is wanted to reuse to build a 7,5 hectare urbanization that only uses green technologies and clean energy.

The plan is to create a city that will be built from recycled material from the jail. The existing prefabricated elements will be reused, so that the bars of the cells will be transformed into balustrades and the doors, into pedestrian bridges. The project, which is scheduled to start in early 2018, It will include 1.350 homes, of which 30% will be of the social type.

To also generate sustainable activities in the urban environment, one of the towers will be used to build a vertical park and for urban agriculture. Urban gardens are a good sustainable tool for cities.

All buildings are expected are powered by renewable energy and that the city does not generate waste. These revolutionary technologies will be able to improve little by little.
