Solar energy in agriculture

La solar energy It has multiple applications, one of the least developed is the use for agricultural operations. This technology helps to develop economic activities, increase the agricultural productivity but also to improve the quality of life of the rural population.

There are different ways of harnessing and using solar energy in this sector, such as drying seeds or fruit in a very simple and ecological way. But also to provide electricity to be able to extract by means of a water pump for irrigation or for other requirements such as heating systems.

In addition to using in greenhouses photovoltaic solar panels or which would allow significant energy savings and increased production, but also lengthens its useful life.

Subsistence farmers or the poorest in various regions of the world cannot reach this type of technology since, although its cost is not very high, they cannot afford it, so state aid is needed.

Providing support to the inhabitants of rural areas to access solar technology is a way to help them improve their economic and social situation in addition to promoting and developing local activities.

El agricultural sector has great possibilities of incorporating clean renewable energies not only solar but wind, biofuels, etc. The use of these energy sources will allow a better commercial performance but above all it will improve the quality of life of rural populations and generate a lower environmental impact.

The FAO recommends and is committed to spreading the use of renewable energy in agriculture, especially solar, it considers a very useful tool to develop poor rural communities in a short time.

Promoting projects that bring solar technology closer to rural areas should be a state policy due to the benefits it offers on a personal and community level.
