Renewable energy covered 17,3% of demand in 2016

renewable energy

Renewable energies in Spain are increasing little by little despite the taxes and the difficulties it has. Making a count of the year 2016, it was achieved that renewables covered 17,3% of energy consumption in Spain. Furthermore, thanks to Eurostat data, it is known that 11 of the 28 Member States of the European Union have met their renewable targets for 2020.

How is the energy outlook going?

Renewable energies in the EU

increase in renewables

Since 2004, the rates of production and coverage of renewable energies has doubled. The consumption covered by renewables in the EU reaches 17%. In 2004 there was a demand covered by clean energies of only 8,5%, compared to the current 17%.

Both the EU and Spain, whose data are very close to the average, should reach a rate of 20% in 2020 and 27% in 2030.

Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Croatia, Italy, Lithuania, Hungary, Romania, Finland and Sweden have already reached their 2020 targets, while Austria is less than half a point from reaching its 34% commitment.

The EU state that covers the most amount of energy with renewables is Sweden. 53,4% of the energy consumed comes from clean sources, although this figure is higher in countries that do not belong to the EU, such as Norway with 67,5% or Iceland with 64%. Therefore, it is necessary to put the batteries, since there is a long stretch between Norway and Spain.

On the other hand, there are also countries whose renewable production leaves much to be desired. Those countries are Luxembourg with 5,4% or Malta and the Netherlands with 6%. These states are a long way from achieving their 2020 goals.

To improve in renewables, you have to look at countries that are above to take them as an example and increase the amount of renewable energy that is generated.
