In Spain, it is also betting on renewable energies and the market is improving little by little, despite the energy problems imposed by our government. Cepsa has announced in a statement that it has acquired the rights to develop its first wind farm in Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz), with which you will enter the renewables business.
As we know, Cepsa has moved between the production of fuel from fossil resources, so it is the first time that it ventures into the world of renewables. What feature and when will this new wind farm start operating?
New wind farm
The Cepsa company has acquired the rights to develop a wind farm whose installed capacity is 28,8 megawatts (MW). The preparations for its construction have already begun and after its construction, the wind farm will start operating at the end of 2018. All administrative procedures and construction and engineering works will be carried out in the coming months.
The Director of Gas and Electricity of Cepsa, Juan Manuel Garcia-Horrillo, explained that this first wind farm is the company's first step in the renewable energy business, a field in which it has said that they want to "continue to advance progressively", in order to complement its portfolio of businesses derived from fossil fuels with renewable energy sources.
Cepsa in the world of renewables
It is the first time that Cepsa has committed to renewable energies and its first wind farm will be in Andalusia, where the company has two oil refineries, two petrochemical plants, six cogeneration plants, a combined cycle, a biofuel plant that it acquired this year from Abengoa, two liquefied gas bottling plants and 282 service stations.
However, this time Cepsa is committed to renewables and it will do so strongly.
