In order to democratize the renewable energy sector, the energy model must be changed. To do this, Barcelona intends to create an entity that markets renewable energies destining 130 million euros until 2019 to be able to make different trading strategies with renewable energies. It is proposed that this entity manage the public energy obtained through renewable sources and that the self-consumption of energy and the marketing of surpluses that are not used be included in the management.
Eloi Badia, Councilor for energy of the Barcelona City Council, affirms that of the 130 million euros budgeted for the change in the energy model, 76 million they are destined to be able to rehabilitate buildings in which the marketing entity works. Others 32 million Euros will be used for the generation and subsequent promotion of renewable energy. By last, 8.4 million will be used to alleviate energy poverty.
Janet sanz, Deputy Mayor, has defended that the objectives of this change in the energy model are based on a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 18%, to be able to reach twice the amount of local energy from renewable sources, guaranteeing the basic supplies to citizens and as a whole, reduce by 10% the total consumption of the entire city.
In order to work on this new energy model, different possibilities must be considered. Badia assures that it will seek the collaboration of individuals and companies for the rental of rooftops. With the rented roofs you can boost the generation of photovoltaic energy with solar panels. On the other hand, buildings will be rehabilitated ensuring that emissions are zero, and the energy consumption of light is greatly reduced using LED technology.
Sanz has criticized the Central Government saying that it does not bet on renewable energies and has affirmed that this change in the energy model not just an improvement, but a must for everyone.
