Tomato and pepper residues boost biogas production

A team of scientists from the Polytechnic University of Valencia has been studying and analyzing the use of agricultural waste or by-products to know how they behave to produce biogas.

The results to which they concluded is that the pepper is capable of increasing biogas production by 44%, which digesters that only used slurry from pigs.

Tomato increased the production of methane gas 41%, peach only 28% and persimmon did not show differences.

With these data, scales and percentages can be established to combine the different raw materials to make better use of methane production with the technology already installed.

With this information, industrial biogas plants and even private farms with biodigesters They will be able to increase their production effortlessly just by using the correct raw materials.

It is not random to use slurry as raw material for energy generation since these organic residues have little use as compost so there is an excess of this element in this area. The idea is to give an adequate and environmentally sustainable treatment to this waste.

So the municipal state and other local organizations are looking for practical applications to take advantage of this element that has a low capacity to produce energy only as biogas, so it is not profitable.

But if the slurry is combined with agricultural residues that enhance biogas production, it will be much more efficient and profitable.

Some real-scale tests still need to be carried out to have more precise data on the behavior of the waste, but this research can be really useful to improve the production of biogas.

It would be a great advance to be able to find the perfect formula among natural elements that guarantee a profitable and efficient generation of biogas both on a local and industrial scale.

Good night! where I can find more data or a document that shows this type of research. Thank you
