Tesla returns electricity to a children's hospital in Puerto Rico

Unfortunately, it has been more than a month since the devastating Hurricane Maria, which destroyed Puerto RicoIn fact, it left almost the entire territory cut off and without electricity.

Elon Musk said he wanted to help the island rebuild your power grid, something we will have to see. For now, Tesla is starting to keep his word and has already installed a solar energy system in a hospital.

Tesla has installed a network of solar panels and Powerwall batteries at the Children's Hospital in the city of San Juan. Furthermore, Musk has personally donated $ 250.000 to help the citizens of Puerto Rico.

The system was built in record time. It took barely a week to install all the panels and batteriesAccording said one of the members of the hospital's board of directors.

The company says the system at the pediatric hospital is just the first of several similar projects. The government of Puerto Rico was very grateful to Elon Musk for helping the civilian population.

According to Governor Rossello:

“I thank Tesla for choosing this site because so many vulnerable children depend on it. Without energy, many would not be able to receive their medical treatment. "

Elon Musk

The installation of the Tesla solar grid at the Children's Hospital comes days after the former governor of Puerto Rico, Alejandro García Padilla, post a tweet in which it showed the conditions in which they are attending to patients in much of Puerto Rico. In the photo that went viral we can see doctors operating using the flashlight of smartphones to see.

At present, a month after the passage of Hurricane Maria, more than 2,5 million people in Puerto Rico (of the 3,4 million that inhabit the island) are still without electricity and without communication.

Gogole and AT&T

Other companies such as Google or AT&T are also working to restore connections electricity and especially mobile internet on the island.

In fact, Alphabet has partnered with AT&T to help connect citizens, using Project Loon's hot air balloons (developed by its X Company division) and the LTE network of the telephone operator. Currently, the first balloons have taken off from their launch base, in the state of Nevada.

Balloons Project LoonAccording to the company, they can cover up to 5.000 kilometers of territory. For its part, AT&T assures that they have already managed to restore internet access to 60% of the population in Puerto Rico, but there is still work to do. In addition to internet access, a lot of effort is still needed to solve the problems and failures of the electricity grid on the island, especially to prevent something like this from happening again.

Other Tesla Projects (Powerwall)

Powerwall is a battery of the company TeslaEnergy, a US subsidiary of Tesla Motors. Powerwall batteries are rechargeable for home use and small industries. PFor larger installations Tesla offers the Power Pack that can be scaled indefinitely to reach GWh capacities

HYPERLOOP

hyperloops is the trade name registered by the aerospace transport company SpaceX, for the transport of passengers and goods in vacuum tubes at high speed.

hyperloop

The original Hyperloop sketch was an idea made public through a preliminary design document in August 2013, which included a theoretical route through the area of Los Angeles to the San Francisco Bay Area, for most of its route parallel to Interstate 5. Preliminary analysis indicated that the estimated time for such a route could be 35 minutes, meaning that passengers would traverse the 560-kilometer route at an average speed of around 970 km / h, with a maximum speed of 1.200 km / h.

SpaceX

SpaceX was founded in June 2002 by Elon Musk to revolutionize space technology, with the ultimate goal of allow people to live on other planets.

SpaceX

It has developed the Falcon 1 and Falcon 9 rockets, which have been built with the goal of being reusable space launch vehicles. SpaceX has also developed the Dragon spacecraft, which was launched into orbit by the Falcon 9 launch vehicles. SpaceX designs, tests and manufactures most components in-house, including the Merlin, Kestrel and Draco rocket engines.
