Spanish companies want to bet on renewables

Ya there are 11 countries of our environment that have met the 20% target for 2020, and that even meet the new 2030 targets, such as Sweden, Finland, Latvia, Austria and Denmark.

Incredibly, among those countries that meet the objectives, our neighbor Portugal stands out. Which has the mism climate, same weather conditions it reaches 28%, when we do not reach 17%.

New European proposal

The European Parliament has made a strong commitment to renewable energy. With the goal already set in 2020. The novelty points to the next decade, the year 2030 so that European countries achieve that 35% of their energy is generated by the renewable industry.

more renewable energy

That is a great advance, the previous numbers were 27% for the same date. But for now, this is just the parliamentary proposal. Hopefully they will come true, but for now the European Commission and Council will have to ratify these goals or not.

According to José María González, general director of APPA renovables, he has the following opinion: «We hope that this number will be maintained or that it will be close. at least in our opinion, it is that a very clear signal is launched that you have to bet on renewables ».

Spain

Unfortunately, in Spain we did not reach the 17% of the total energy generated by renewables. After years without installing a single MW of new renewable power due to the decrees of the PP, in the last year 3 mega-auctions have been held in Spain, we understand that due to pressure from the European Union.

With these auctions, we would have to reach the 20% that the European Union is asking for within two years.

Types of renewable energies

In China there is a road with solar panels. It is one of the examples that the great powers are already betting strongly on renewable energy. The explanation is simple: costs have been greatly reduced.

The revolution that has taken place in recent years is that the costs, thanks to the learning curve, have already been reduced so much that already the main option to build new power generation plants in all the countries of the world, it is renewable energies ”, assures Heikki Willstedt, director of Energy Policy and Climate Change PREPA.

Spanish companies want to get on the renewables train

In fact, many companies want to bet on renewables, be they banks (Bankia or CaixaBank), construction companies, public administrations, distributors such as El Corte Ingles, among others.

Bankia

Taking the example of Bankia, Nexus Energy will supply 100% renewable electricity to Bankia, supplying a total of 2.398 supply points, between buildings head offices and branches, with an annual consumption of more than 87 GWh. Nexus Energía presented one of the most competitive offer at an economic and technical level, thanks to its multipoint optimization and management tools.

The determining aspect was the optimization work carried out for all Bankia headquarters and branches, which will mean important savings to the bank. In addition, the electricity company carried out an exhaustive study of each supply point to find its real needs for electrical energy.

Caixabank

Another example is CaixaBank, this entity has helped to start up a biomass cogeneration plant in Viñales (Chile), as a way to offset CO₂ emissions derived from its activity during the past year. Calculating its carbon footprint and supporting projects that help neutralize it is one of the actions that materializes CaixaBank's commitment to preserving the environment and fighting climate change.

In fact, in Spain renewable energy companies set ambitious and optimistic goals. Be self-sufficient by 2040 by generating 100% of electricity in a renewable way. And in 2050 reach full decarbonization.

CO2 emissions

Currently it seems more a dream than a possibility, but it will only be possible if there is political will. Only in this way no fossil fuel will be used within 3 decades.
