Cuba builds 59 solar parks to generate clean energy

Cuba

Cuba is moving in other directions and that openness has made it possible for us to even be talking about its commitment to renewable energies when we haven't done it in years. So we can add to another country that takes itself seriously energy independence in a clean energy source that is consistent with the environment and world in which we live.

Cuba began the construction of 59 photovoltaic solar parks with the idea of reducing dependence on fossil fuels and devising other wastelands in which clean energy is the main attraction for electricity consumption.

Of the 59 solar parks, 33 should be over in this same year to go at the same time in sync with the national energy system. These will provide 59 megawatts, which is the equivalent of half of a conventional power plant.

It is currently unknown where these solar parks will be located, although they have already started with the infrastructure to make way on the land and thus start the construction of the same promptly.

Cuba wants to be participant in these global goals To move towards reducing greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, so the use of solar energy, one of the most promising renewable sources in this country, is an essential objective to change the energy paradigm throughout the national territory.

The average that Cuba receives from solar radiation is more than 1.800 kilowatts per square meter per year, figures that would place this Caribbean country as one of the energy powers if it took advantage of it.

Not only will it remain in the use of solar energy, but it was already announced in September 2016 that it has plans to build seven wind farms in the eastern region with the help of the Spanish company Gamesa. In total they would be about 750 megawatts more to the system.

Currently only 4% of the electricity generated comes from renewable sources. The goal is to reach 24% by 2030.
