The development of renewable energies, unlike Spain, is going from strength to strength in many countries around the world. If so, the state of California is developing its solar power generation capacity with brilliant speed and intensity.
There is so much solar energy that it generates that they have to pay neighboring states to absorb their surplus production. What reasons do you have for producing so much solar energy?
California and solar energy
One of the big reasons California is generating more and more renewable solar energy is because production costs are getting cheaper. The more players there are in the renewables sector, the more competitiveness and development there are. This causes an attempt to find the best way to incorporate a clean energy source into an electrical network that is becoming increasingly decentralized.
The problem itself is not the difficulties posed by renewable energies, but the existing policy in the countries. For example, Spain has great potential for solar and wind energy, but the current Government does not bet on renewable energy. In California they have to limit the production of solar energy in the summer and in the spring they have to pay money to the rest of the states to consume the surpluses.
Since 2010, the solar energy production of electric companies in California it has risen from a meager 0,05% in 2010 to more than 10% today. Combine that with a significant increase in rooftop installations in homes and businesses across the state, amounting to more than 5 GW, and you get a state that contains half of the nation's solar generating capacity.
As you can see, it is a pleasure to mention the issue of renewable energies, what a pity that the same cannot be said about Spain.
