Homes in Alcalá will benefit from renewable energies

Some 12.000 homes in the Madrid town of Alcalá de Henares will be able to benefit from the renewable energy project called "Alcalá District Heating ”.

It's based on a heat network for these homes whose source of energy will be provided by concentrating solar energy and biomass.

The project has been signed with the presence of Javier Rodríguez Palacios, Olga García, Alberto Egido and Teo López (Mayor of Alcalá de Henares, First Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Heritage, Councilor for the Environment and the representative of Alcalá District Heating respectively ).

The idea of ​​said project is the use of solar panels and urban heat, thus being able to supply Alcalá through the aforementioned renewable energies, with biomass being the one that counts as support.

The start-up of Alcalá District Heating involves reaching some 12.000 homes in the city, also including companies, and on the other hand, achieving a considerable reduction in the population's energy bill.

The company in charge of the project will inform all those neighboring communities that want or may benefit from this initiative.

At the moment, Alcalá District Heating has the project commissioning in the medium term.

Javier Rodríguez Palacios has indicated that:

“The project has a powerful, sustainable and also economical technology.

We are delighted as the City Council to sign this agreement and collaborate in this initiative to show that sustainability does not have to be more expensive ”.

The first deputy mayor also wanted to indicate:

“The projects that come to the city to improve the quality of life.

In cases like this we make a change in our energy model because the implementation of these systems that use renewable energies could reduce up to 40 thousand tons of CO2 per year, which would mean an improvement in the air in our city ”.
